Expand your community reach this Small Business Week

It’s not a health observance, but the upcoming Small Business Week can be a huge opportunity for your business to call a little attention to who you are and what you do. It’s also the perfect way to easily get more involved in your local business community.

Small Business week takes place April 30 – May 6, 2017. It’s a great time to build relationships and tout all that you do. Here are some ways to get started:

  • If you’re not already a member of your local chamber of commerce or a specialized local chamber of commerce, what are you waiting for? If you’re not already a member, make it a point to attend their monthly meeting to learn more about these great organizations and how they can benefit you. While you’re there, don’t forget to network. Take along a stack of business cards and a stash of general agency collateral to hand out as you let people know about the important services you provide
  • Get in touch with your district office of the U.S. Small Business Administration and learn more about the important services they offer to support independent businesses. You might find that you qualify for financial assistance, free consulting services or more.
  • Many of your referral partners will also be part of a small business, which is defined as a business with fewer than 500 employees. According to the SBA, there are more than 28 million small businesses in the United States, employing about 57 million employees. Take the time to recognize your small-business referral partners and the hard work they do. When you call on them, make sure they know about ways they could be increasing their reimbursements by billing for Care Plan Oversight for home health or hospice, Transitional Care Management, or Advance Care Planning.
  • As the observance draws closer, the SBA's Small Business Week will start to have more and more information to help those who wish to participate. Even though ours is a niche industry, you will find that much of the SBA's information highlighting observance-related webinars, events and other activities applies to your business, too.
